European Green Days at Aiviekste river floodplains

near Ďaudona – 02.06.2004.          

 

Green Days is annual events to facilitate understanding and local support of Natura 2000 network of protected nature areas over the Europe at the local and regional level. This year we also celebrate 25 aniversary of the EU's Birds Directive due to that, the special attention is paid to bird species protected by this directive.

 

This Green Day event is devoted to new Natura 2000 area “Aiviekste floodplain” and organized by The Administration of Teici Nature Reserve. The main value of this area is high density of Corncrake Crex crex - is symbol of our event and a logo of local Municipality of Ďaudona. To regenerate and protect grassland habitats for protected birds, nature friendly management in this area is carried out during last years with the support of EU LIFE Nature Program.

 

 

To facilitate positive understanding and local support of newly established Nature Park, local inhabitants will be invited for bird watching in early morning. Local authorities and members of Consultative Board of Teici NR will be introduced with nature values and management practice during the guided walk thought the wetland area..

            Activity:     Birdwatching hour with the help of specialists and birdwatchers-enthusiasts. Introducing with plant species of floodplain.
